Emily Nelson

Since I was little all I ever wanted to be was an artist, to draw and paint and be inspired by life and the beauty in the everyday. I also dreamt of being a mum and am lucky enough to have 5 wild (but great) kids, the latest addition arrived in April last year. Due to these guys it has taken some time to establish Emily Nelson Art, but I am more inspired than ever to grow, evolve and create.

I was born in Brighton and studied at Central St Martins College of Art & Design, London, 2003-2006. I currently live and work in a village just north of Brighton, in Sussex. My studio is at home so I manage to combine my two passions of family and art, though sometimes it feels more like a juggling act.

I am an impressionist/realist artist. Oil is my preferred medium but I also enjoy working in acrylic, watercolour or pen and ink.

I want my work to provoke a response in people and to put them in touch with the beauty that surrounds them. The theme in common to all my paintings is a richness of palette which I love for its power to create atmosphere and mood. I celebrate the diversity of my subject matter from portraits, to landscapes, to still life. Ultimately, I want my work to inspire, be shared and enjoyed.

Those of you who follow me on social media will know that I have been taking a break from commissions and have recently closed the shop, due to our building project and my increased commitments at SEVEN Home and Design. I hope to still find some time to paint and add to my collection of work and in time share the work with you. Please keep following on Instagram @emilynelsonartuk where I will keep you updated on art and living. Thank you so much for all the kind words and support you have shown over the last few years and recently during these changes, very grateful.

Ultimately, I want my work to inspire, be shared and enjoyed.
